An Interview with Emma Hillman

Emma Hillman
Emma Hillman never plans her stories. She just lets the characters have fun and hopes the ending will make sense. It usually does.

Besides being a multi-published author of erotic romances, she works full-time and lives in Paris with a (nice) husband, a (cute) little girl, and two sweet but (very) loud pets. She also reads far too much as the postman (and her banker) could attest, but shhhh.

For more information on her current and future releases, you can visit her blog at http://emmahillmanbooks.blogspot.com/ or chat with her on Twitter (@droptheglasses). She’d love to hear from you!

Are there any occupational hazards to being a novelist?

Oh, hell yes. One of them is that your brain turns everything into a premise. I could be watching the news or listening to music, and my mind focuses on one piece of information and suddenly I have the beginning of a book. With dialogue and characters and everything. Okay, so that may just be because I have an overactive imagination!

Also, one of the occupational hazards of writing erotic romances is people wanting to know if you write from experience. Because of course I have threesomes every other weekend. Really, no, I don’t. See previous point about overactive imagination.

There’s something called research too but no, that still doesn’t include threesomes with another woman. Really.

I’m sorry to disappoint you ;)

How do you react to a bad review of one of your books?

That’s easy. I’ve got a new system: I don’t read any reviews that are lower than 3 stars. I was making myself crazy and realized there really is no point. I’ll never make everyone happy and I’ve got to accept that. So I have. Okay so I cheat and don’t read them.

Hey, it works!

What is the most important lack in your life?

Time!

I need more time. I work full-timem I have a 5yo daughter and a husband and a family, a house to clean, two loud pets…and I write for three different publishers. I guess I should say I also need holidays but maybe that would be too greedy.

One day I’ll be able to write full-time, although for some reason I’m pretty sure there still won’t be enough time in the day. It’s just one of those things!

Do you ever write Naked?

Do you? ;)

No, I don’t need to be naked to write sexy stuff. That would be really awkward in the train otherwise!

Mitnik: To answer the question, sometimes.. ;) Occasionally I play the role of editor/sounding board for Ms. Victoria Blisse, sometimes this leads to her ripping my clothes off and having her wicked way with me.. I’ll then be allowed to return to whatever it was I was doing beforehand and I’m just too lazy to get dressed again.. and also I like to tease her with the sheen of my just fucked body ;)

Are you fun to go on holiday with?

I guess that depends what you want to do on holiday. If you want to go tanning during the day and clubbing at night, then that’s really not me. I’d rather go swimming then laze around with a good book.

I read a lot on holidays. I guess that’s my relaxation! So I plan accordingly and bring a book a day. Yes, that means an entire bag full of books. What’s the problem with that? I just bring the minimum amount required of clothes and shoes, read shorts and flip flops; that way there’s space left for my books. Tada!

Nate, or Dr Franks as everyone knows him, used to be the Pride’s most easy-going lion. All it took was for him to take over the town’s practice and the arrival of the new nurse, Kellie, for his good humor to leave out the window. He might even start believing the rumor that she’s been transferred from another Pride because they couldn’t deal with her anymore.

Kellie might not like Dr Franks much, well apart from the way he looks, but she knows one thing: he might be her last solution if she wants to learn how to control her lioness. The duality between her animal’s needs and her own is driving her crazy.

When Nate learns what happened in her old Pride and why, he sees red and decides to help her. Her lioness is so strong he has to take drastic measures, and they end up mated. Between his father’s anger and someone intent on destroying their new-found relationship, it will be up to Nate to keep them alive…but at what cost?
