An Interview with Gemma Jones

Gemma Jones
I started writing erotica as a way of journaling my journey into swinging. With a lot of encouragement from my husband and some other special friends I started posting short stories featuring mainly group sex and couplings between heterosexual couples on Literotica.com.

Through that website I met some people who encouraged me to self-publish my first book “Bite the Apple”. This book is a collection of short stories featuring sexual fantasies both my own and those of some other people I have met through swinging and online.

I am a compulsive multitasker and so “Rock Her World” kind of happened at the same time as Bite the Apple. This book featured a woman who I would like to think is like myself but younger.

I started blogging in January 2011. The blog features short snippets of real life adventures that Gemma has from time to time and short stories either as an excerpt or as a standalone stories. I post a short story once a week as part of the ‘Wank Wednesday Festival of Smut’.

Do you ever write Naked?

I don’t usually sit around the house completely naked. I do come from a very warm climate and so I often wear very little when I am home writing. Usually a bikini and some small shorts or a tank top.

How do you react to a bad review of one of your books?

No one likes to hear negative comments about something they have spent a lot of hours creating but I do like to see every event as an opportunity to learn. Keeping that in mind I try to be objective about criticism and use the learning to improve my work.

Are there any occupational hazards to being a novelist?

Trying to mentally record something because it might be good material for a story. This is not so bad during most daily things but can be a bit of a problem when you find yourself making mental notes about sensations, actions and positions when you are having sex!

What was the name of your first computer?

I don’t actually name my computers but the name of my first car was called Jenny.

How would you describe your latest book in 4 words?

Not your average pornography.

Is there a snobbery directed against erotic writing in this country?

I am not sure snobbery is the right word. I think a lot of people have very closed minds when it comes to things sexual. That can make being open about non-monogamous lifestyles and admitting you are a writer of erotica hard. I also believe that we often expect people to react more negatively than they will. I have had many experiences when people have reacted in a much more positive manner than I expected when I revealed something to them about my lifestyle or my writing.

Are you fun to go on holiday with?

My husband, children and I have travelled extensively by road through Australia. To break up long hours in the car I have invented characters that interact with everyone else in the car. One of the most memorable ones was Katie the Kangaroo who was a hand puppet with an extremely annoying voice. Appearances by Katie often caused the kids to fall about almost speechless with. My husband HATES Katie but I get requests from the children for encore performances of Katie even three years after her debut. They still think she is hilarious.

What would we find in your refrigerator right now?

About six dozen free range eggs laid by the Arucana hens that live in my back yard.

What would the title of your bibliography be?

Life is an Adventure.

What’s the most important part of a pizza?

Definitely the cheese.
