Mercury Rising by Daisy Harris
One is good, three is better or so it seems when we come to Daisy Harris’ Mercury Rising a ménage of tales featuring those naughty Gods.
At it’s core this is a male/male story and as a straight male I did worry I might not be able to get into the story when I was handed it to review but I really liked the way things were handled, the story wasn’t so much about being gay but moreso being yourself and I really found myself getting caught up in the romance and heat rather than the fact it was two guys, so I think Daisy deserves extra special kudos for that.
It was good to see some of the old Myths turned on their heads with some very well writen humour that had me chuckling out loud on more than the odd occassion, It was nice to see the Goddess of Virginity in a threesome for starters. I think that’s a real bonus, it’s great to have wild, raw passionate sex but it’s also nice to have a little light relief, to know that even for the Gods things don’t always go quite to plan.
I love the complexness of Mercury and Daisy has done a fantastic job in really giving him depth, you really believe in him and feel for his struggles. One of the biggest plus points I give to this book is that we see growth in the characters, they develop throughout the story, taking in it’s harsh lessons and learning to accept themselves, that’s very much an over-riding theme of the tale and it’s a good one we do need to learn to accept ourselves for who we are and who we can be and Daisy writes that with such passion and determidness it’s hard not to take up her call and strive for a brighter tomorrow.
With the conclusion suitably heartwarming, the sex sizzling (The Incredible Ménage will live long in my memory) and the sheer imagination of Daisy Harris mindblowing this is definitely one for the Snuggle under that blanket and enjoy pile!
